Rancho Brazos begins as a community mission serving families and children
Rancho Brazos Community Centers began as a community mission serving children and families in the Rancho Brazos and Sandy Beach communities. The goal was to provide a safe place for children, support for families, and build strong relationships within the community.
On May 15, 2013, the Granbury tornado devastated the Rancho Brazos community and surrounding areas, causing significant damage and loss. During the recovery and rebuilding period, Rancho Brazos became an important place of support and stability for families in the community.
From 2013 to 2019, Rancho Brazos expanded programs to include free after-school programs, food assistance programs, youth and family programs, holiday assistance programs, community events, and volunteer programs.
In 2019, Rancho Brazos Community Centers became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, allowing the organization to grow fundraising, partnerships, and programs to serve more families across Hood County.
On April 12, 2022, Hood County Commissioners approved a 99-year land lease for Rancho Brazos Community Centers, allowing us to begin building a permanent campus and expand services for future generations.
Since then, campus development and program expansion have included Paula’s Pantry food distribution, community gardens, orchard planting, chicken and agriculture programs, water harvesting systems, expanded after-school and youth programs, community partnerships, and planning for an educational kitchen and teen center.
On April 18, 2024, the foundation pad for the new building was poured, marking a major step forward in building the Rancho Brazos campus.
On April 28, 2026, Rancho Brazos will celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new building and water harvesting system, representing years of growth, community support, and a vision for the future of Rancho Brazos and the families we serve.
